Alimosho Commends Presidency on June 12 decision

Exactly one and half decades ago, Nigerians came out en-mass to exercise their civil responsibility and make a democratic decision in what will be historically remembered as the freest, fairest and the most peaceful election in Nigeria up till date. June 12 since 1994 has been a remembrance of a day we all democratically took a decision and was not upheld by the then military junta led by General Ibrahim Babangida.

Today, we are celebrating June 12 in a different dimension. It takes a true democrat to recognize and honored the importance of June 12 to Nigeria democracy. This has been honorably done by our esteem President Muhammad Buhari has he came out to recognized June 12 as our official democracy day.

We commend the sagacity of Mr. President. This year, we have encounter another milestone in the history of our democracy, courtesy of Mr. President. The President has honored late Chief MKO Abiola with the highest title in Nigeria, GCFR without leaving others. This is a step in the right direction.

It is sacrosanct at this point to acknowledge the brilliant role played by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu before, during and after June 12. He is no doubt one of the major contributor to the June 12 struggle and his present role in democracy lead us to this stage.

The role of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola during the June 12 struggle must be acknowledged. His doggedness and courage on the field shows he is a true comrade.

We are happy today, that the effort of our hero’s past has not gone in vain. We are happy that the origin of our democracy has been redirected to the appropriate event. We are happy that our struggle for self-determination has come to pay off.

Once again, I want to congratulate the people of Alimosho, democratic Lagosian and the entire people Nigerians as we celebrate this year June 12.
